64oz of Water
To start off, I’m sure you hear this all the time… but a very essential healthy habit is drinking enough water. You should be drinking 8 glasses (64oz) of water a day! What a lot of people don’t realize is water is vital for your body and brain function! It helps regulate your body temperature, decrease risk of infections and illnesses, clear your skin, and maintain a healthy body weight.
A good way to ensure you’re drinking enough water is by having a glass of water next to your bed to drink in the morning and at night. Also, you should have a water bottle in an area that you spend a lot of time in like your car or your work space.
10k Steps a Day
Next, walking is a great healthy habit to incorporate into your daily routine. Getting 10k steps a day will get you in shape and actually keep the pounds off. This is because it builds muscle while simultaneously burning fat. Plus, it doesn’t have all the hard impact on your body that most cardios have. Aside from dropping a few pant sizes, there are so many astonishing internal benefits to walking.
For example, walking decreases your chances of heart disease, strokes, cancers, and type 2 diabetes. It lowers your blood pressure and stress levels. Walking increases your cardiovascular fitness and energy levels. It improves your brain function, mood, and sleep. Lastly, it strengthens your bones and immune system.
As you can see, there are so many benefits!
In the past, 10K steps seemed like a lot to me… but that was because I was working an office job where I would sit for 8 hours straight. I was simply not moving my body enough. If you relate to that, here are some tips: park your car farther away (at work, at a store, etc), chase your kids/ pets around the house, go on a walk after dinner (this also helps you digest all the food you just ate), do daily chores to get you moving around, or take breaks periodically throughout your work day to walk around the office.
7+ Hours of Sleep
Sleep is the next healthy habit. Getting enough rest helps with reducing health issues, strengthening your immune system, restoring your muscles, and improving your brain function. Quality sleep is essential for a healthy lifestyle. You can improve your sleep by making sure your sleeping space is quiet, dark, and a comfortable temperature. Lastly, be mindful of what time you have to be in bed to ensure you do get 7+ hours of sleep.
30 Minutes of Exercise
Next, let’s talk about moving your body. This does not have to be vigorous exercise for 30 minutes to still get benefits. It could be something as relaxing as yoga or as intense as a cycling class. Again, maybe you want to knock out two birds with one stone and go on a walk or light jog. Just a little consistent movement each day can go so far for your health. Benefits will vary with different exercises, but they will be very similar to the walking benefits.
My favorite way to satisfy this healthy habit is by throwing on a work out video on youtube. There are endless options to pick from!
Eating Healthy
Lastly, eating a balanced diet is the final component you should be doing everyday. Healthy eating lowers your blood pressure, reduces risk of diseases, helps with weight loss, and ensures you get the nutrients your body needs.
My #1 healthy habit tip for eating clean is to add veggies into whatever you’re making. For example, I will add a bunch of onions and peppers to my eggs for breakfast.
Final thoughts
Undoubtedly, these 5 healthy habits will guarantee you a healthy body inside and out.
